New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has witnessed a significant surge in the adoption of its AI-powered Aadhaar Face Authentication technology, with over 78 per cent of total transactions recorded in the financial year 2024-25.
The biometric solution, which was designed to enhance accessibility and security, registered more than 102 core transactions during the fiscal year ending 31 March this year. As reported earlier, in January, this solution already hit the 100 crore transaction mark.
It should also be noted that the IT Ministry has launched the Aadhaar Good Governance portal recently to facilitate a more efficient approval process for Aadhaar authentication requests. With this initiative, the government aims to enhance Aadhaar’s role in governance, improve ease of living and expand access to essential services for residents.
Rapid Adoption
Aadhaar Face Authentication, introduced in October 2022, has transformed identity verification across various sectors.
Since its launch, UIDAI has recorded a cumulative 130.5 crore transactions, with nearly 39.5 crore occurring between January and March 2025 alone.
According to the government, this year, March witnessed an unprecedented spike, with 15.25 crore transactions—a 21.6 per cent increase from the previous month—highlighting the growing reliance on this seamless verification method.
The AI-driven authentication system has gained widespread acceptance in key domains such as finance, telecommunications and fintech, ensuring secure and hassle-free transactions.
Additionally, several welfare schemes backed by the government, such as PM Awas (Urban), PM-JAY, PM Kisan, PM Ujjwala, PM Internship and PM E-Drive, have integrated this technology to streamline benefits distribution and reduce fraudulent claims.
Accessibility and Security
Aadhaar Face Authentication serves as a vital alternative for individuals who face difficulties with fingerprint-based authentication, particularly senior citizens and workers in labor-intensive jobs.
Its advanced AI and machine learning capabilities ensure foolproof security by preventing video replay attacks and static photo misuse attempts.
Currently, 102 entities across government and private sectors have implemented this authentication method, which operates seamlessly on both Android and iOS platforms.
The contactless and location-independent nature of this system has enabled users to verify their identity with just a face scan, making it a convenient and secure solution for digital authentication in India’s evolving digital landscape.
