Lucknow: In a move aimed at addressing skill gaps in tourism education, Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) and Manyawar Kanshiram Institute of Tourism Management (MKITM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly offer academic and practical training programmes in Uttar Pradesh.
Focus on Employability and Skill Development
The agreement, signed on Thursday in Lucknow, outlines a collaboration on curriculum development, hands-on training, and research initiatives in the tourism and hospitality sector. The courses will be designed to offer a mix of academic learning and field-based training, aligning with industry requirements.
Officials said the curriculum will be jointly developed by both institutions to reflect evolving industry standards and employment trends. Students enrolled under the new programmes will be given access to MKITM’s state-run facilities for practical exposure and internships.
To ensure effective implementation, a joint coordination committee will be formed to monitor the rollout of the programs. This committee will also be responsible for maintaining academic quality and ensuring that the training remains aligned with current industry practices.
Implications for Students and the Sector
The agreement is likely to benefit students interested in domestic as well as international tourism markets. With a structured approach to training and exposure, the partnership may serve as a model for similar collaborations in other states.
While the long-term outcomes remain to be seen, the collaboration signals a shift toward more integrated, sector-focused higher education in Uttar Pradesh.
