New Delhi: Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Railways, and Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw on 18 April inaugurated VVDN Technologies’ new Surface Mount Technology (SMT) Line and Mechanical Innovation Park at its Global Innovation Park in Manesar, while also unveiling the government’s strategic push for strengthening India’s electronics ecosystem through a newly approved Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme.
The Union Minister Vaishnaw said the upcoming scheme, recently cleared by the Cabinet, is designed to deepen India’s presence in global electronics value chains and added that its guidelines would be issued shortly.

Highlighting India’s recent momentum in electronics manufacturing, Vaishnaw said that production in the sector has surged fivefold to Rs 11 lakh crore, while exports have grown six times to over Rs 3.25 lakh crore.
“This is one of the biggest Make in India success stories,” Vaishnaw stated, adding that the sector now employs more than 25 lakh people and is witnessing growing global confidence, driven by improved product quality and stronger IP protection.
The event marked a significant step in India’s hardware innovation capability. VVDN deployed over 6,000 AI servers and operated a workforce of more than 5,000 engineers to develop complex, AI-integrated systems.
Vaishnaw praised this as evidence of India’s shift from just a manufacturing destination to a hub of electronics design innovation.
He also stressed the importance of domestically developed design tools, calling it a major leap toward technological self-reliance. “India now not only manufactures but also designs advanced electronics,” he said.
Reinforcing the government’s commitment to trusted electronics production, the Minister detailed a three-tier skilling approach that includes foundational training, on-site product-level training, and industry-integrated university programmes, particularly for high-end manufacturing roles.
He further emphasised the need to ensure secure supply chains, especially in the area of rare earth materials, and to foster design-led innovation as India eyes a larger role in the global tech ecosystem.
