Panjim: Social impact organisation BharatCares has partnered with NetApp to start a solar energy project that will power seven government schools in Goa.
Inaugurated by the Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant, at a beneficiary school in Bicholim, this is a major step towards sustainable infrastructure in education.
The initiative is called “Shine On – Embracing Solar Energy for our Schools” and is supported by the Goa state government.
The project aims to reduce the operational cost burden on schools, helping them save up to 75 per cent in electricity costs annually.
It also promotes environmental consciousness among students, reducing carbon emissions by approximately 95 metric tonnes and generating over 1.1 lakh units of clean energy each year.
The Shine On project directly benefits over 3000 students and staff and is a stepping stone towards a cleaner, greener and smarter Goa.
The beneficiary government schools can ensure uninterrupted classes, better lighting and overall improvement in the learning environment with this solar installation.
Incidentally, NetApp is scheduled to launch a similar project in Assam in June this year.
