New Delhi: Flexera, a company specializing in technology spend and risk management, is set to acquire the FinOps business of NetApp, including its Spot solutions. This move aims to help businesses better manage cloud costs and usage as cloud consumption continues to grow.
What the Deal Brings
With this acquisition, Flexera will integrate Spot’s AI-powered tools into its existing portfolio. Spot’s solutions are designed to automate and optimize cloud infrastructure, including cost management for containers like Kubernetes. These additions will expand Flexera’s ability to help organizations control cloud spending across hybrid cloud environments, SaaS applications, and more.
The deal also supports Flexera’s goal of building a broader ecosystem for FinOps managed service providers (MSPs), making its tools more accessible to businesses facing rising cloud costs.
Why It Matters
The demand for better cloud cost management is increasing as companies adopt more artificial intelligence (AI) applications, driving up cloud usage. “Many organizations struggle to understand what they’re spending on cloud services and why costs are rising,” said Jim Ryan, CEO of Flexera. By acquiring Spot, Flexera aims to provide clearer insights into technology spending and simplify cloud financial operations.
NetApp’s Focus Shift
For NetApp, selling the Spot business aligns with its decision to focus on its core data infrastructure offerings. According to Haiyan Song, Executive Vice President at NetApp, Flexera’s experience and global reach make it a suitable home for Spot’s team and solutions.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals, and financial details have not been disclosed. This acquisition continues Flexera’s strategy of strengthening its FinOps tools, following its earlier purchase of RightScale in 2018.
