New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of IFS Palaniswamy Subramanyan Karthigeyan as Joint Secretary in the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).
A 2004-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Karthigeyan will serve a three-year tenure until April 6, 2027, or until further orders, according to an official notification from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
Karthigeyan is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). He was earlier posted as India’s High Commissioner to Fiji from January 2021 to December 2024. Upon completion of his tenure in Fiji, he resumed duties at the MEA, continuing until his recent appointment to the Department of Atomic Energy.
As Joint Secretary in the DAE, Karthigeyan will play a crucial role in shaping India’s international nuclear diplomacy, overseeing global collaboration in atomic energy, and coordinating strategic partnerships in the nuclear sector.
His responsibilities will include facilitating inter-governmental agreements on peaceful nuclear cooperation, managing India’s engagement with international bodies like the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and ensuring the alignment of atomic energy initiatives with India’s foreign policy goals. Additionally, he will support high-level decision-making in nuclear policy and contribute to national energy security through diplomatic and administrative expertise.
