Lucknow: In a key bureaucratic reshuffle, IAS Aryaka Akhouri (2013 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre), currently serving as the District Magistrate and Collector of Ghazipur, has been appointed as Special Secretary in the Department of Medical, Health & Family Welfare, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
Widely recognised for her dynamic leadership and citizen-centric approach, IAS Aryaka Akhouri brings a combination of policy expertise and grassroots administrative experience to one of the state’s most crucial departments.
Her appointment is viewed as a strategic move to bolster the health department’s leadership amid growing public health demands.
An alumna of Miranda House, University of Delhi, Akhouri holds a B.Sc. in Botany and an M.Sc. in Plant Molecular Biology—both with First Division. She has held several key positions throughout her civil services career.
She served as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Government of India, and gained vital field experience as Sub-Divisional Magistrate in Varanasi. As Chief Development Officer in Meerut, she implemented innovative rural development initiatives that earned public and administrative acclaim.
Akhouri also served as Special Secretary in the Secondary Education Department, contributing to key human resource development policies. Her most recent roles as District Magistrate of Bhadohi (2021–2022) and Ghazipur (2022–2025) have been praised for impactful crisis management, infrastructure growth, and effective welfare delivery.
With her extensive background and strong administrative credentials, Akhouri is expected to play a vital role in advancing Uttar Pradesh’s healthcare priorities and reform efforts.
