Lucknow: Amit Singh, a 2000-batch Indian Railways Stores Services (IRSS) officer currently serving as Secretary to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has received a two-year extension in his deputation.
With this, IRSS Singh will continue in his post till 31 March 2027, a tenure that now coincides with the next Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, scheduled for early 2027.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) issued the official order on 11 July stating, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the proposal of Ministry of Railways for extension of deputation tenure of Shri Amit Singh, IRSS (2000) to the State Government of Uttar Pradesh for a period upto 31.3.2027, in relaxation of the policy.”
IRSS Singh was brought into the Chief Minister’s Office in April 2017 as Special Secretary, shortly after Yogi Adityanath assumed office during his first term.
Over the past eight years, he has risen to become one of the most trusted bureaucrats in the CM’s inner circle and was elevated to the post of Secretary. His portfolio covers key areas including industry, infrastructure, expressways, airports, IT and electronics, as well as tourism.
IRSS Singh’s role is seen as central to Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to attract global investments and achieve its target of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2029.
He has represented the state at major global platforms, such as the World Economic Forum in Davos, and led delegations abroad, including a visit to New York and San Francisco in 2022 with State Finance Minister Suresh Khanna.
Before joining the CMO, Singh held various significant roles, including serving as Chief Public Relations Officer and secretary to the General Manager at the North Eastern Railways (NER) in Gorakhpur, the CM’s home turf.
His earlier deputation to the Ministry of External Affairs as Regional Passport Officer in Lucknow was cut short when he was brought into the CMO.
