Mhow: India has launched Mission Sudarshan Chakra, an advanced air defence initiative that integrates artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and emerging weapon technologies. The project, announced by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan at the Ran Samvad seminar in Mhow, forms part of a 10-year plan to modernize India’s military technology.
Unlike existing systems, Mission Sudarshan Chakra is being designed to intercept aerial threats and carry out counterstrikes almost simultaneously. Artificial intelligence will drive automated decision-making, enabling faster and more accurate responses. The system will also rely on big data analytics, combining intelligence from land-based radars, airborne and maritime sensors, undersea detectors, and satellites to create a multi-domain surveillance network. Quantum computing will add predictive capabilities by analyzing complex combat scenarios in real time, marking one of India’s first applications of the technology in defence.
The platform will deploy both missile interceptors and advanced options such as kinetic and directed-energy weapons to neutralize hostile targets. According to General Chauhan, lessons from recent conflict simulations have underscored the need for integrated, technology-driven combat readiness. Future warfare, he said, will not remain confined to land, sea, or air but will expand into cyber and space domains, requiring seamless coordination across all services.
Mission Sudarshan Chakra represents India’s attempt to develop an indigenous and cost-efficient system capable of adapting to fast-evolving threats. By prioritizing AI, automation, and quantum technologies, the initiative seeks to strengthen deterrence while preparing India for the challenges of technology-intensive warfare.
