Kolkata: The West Bengal Horticulture Department plans to take all the sabji mandis of Hooghly district online.
The Department plans to sell the vegetables directly from thr producers through online apps.
There was a meeting recently between the Horticulture Department and the District Farmers Producer Organisations (FPO).
After that, five FPOs were identified whose products will be sold through online apps. The necessary contracts will be signed within this month.
Subsequently, more FPOs will be added to the online dragnet. This will expand the market across the state for Hooghly farmers.
The farmers are already leveraging new technological innovations to increase their production capacity. Therefore, this market expansion will benefit them further with a ready set of consumers.
The increasing number of online apps selling across the state will ensure nothing gets wasted, too.
Hooghly will soon have a complete online Sabzi Mandi. Already, the district’s products are reaching different food marts and hotels in Kolkata.
