Aizawl: Mizoram has flagged off 10 mobile forensic vehicles aimed at strengthening scientific crime investigation across the state.
The vehicles are specially designed and equipped with advanced forensic tools to support on-the-spot evidence collection and analysis.
These vehicles have been sanctioned by the Centre for Rs 4.8 crore. The Centre had provided mobile forensic vehicles and advanced equipment to state and UT forensic labs.
In addition to the vehicles, Mizoram also received Rs 6.13 crore for 15 sets of modern forensic instruments.
Mizoram’s Forensic Science Laboratory is among the first to implement paperless case work, fast-tracked examinations and a case tracking system.
These mobile units will aid the effective implementation of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
This new criminal law mandates forensic certification of evidence in cases with punishments exceeding seven years.
