New Delhi: The BJP-led Gujarat government announced a new 26-member cabinet on Friday, marking a significant political and administrative overhaul in the state. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has retained his position, but numerous new members, including cricketer Ravindra Jadeja’s wife, Rivaba Jadeja, have been appointed to the council of ministers.
The new government is expected to be sworn in on 17 October, after CM Patel met with Governor Acharya Devvrat on Thursday evening to present the list of ministers. The upheaval comes after all of the previous government’s ministers resigned, in what party leaders described as a “strategic reset” ahead of the forthcoming local body elections and the 2027 state assembly elections.
As reported, ministers were told to quit by Thursday afternoon so that the Chief Minister and party leadership could reconstitute the government without interference. The previous council of ministers included eight cabinet-level ministers, two ministers of state with independent charge and six ministers of state.
The newly sworn-in ministers include Swaroopji Thakor, Pravenkumar Mali, Rushikesh Patel, Darshna Vaghela, Kunvarji Bavaliya, Arjun Modhwadia, Parshottam Solanki, Jitendra Waghani, Praful Panseriya, Harsh Sanghvi and Kanubhai Desai, among others.
