Itanagar: The Indian Army has launched its first community radio station in the Eastern theatre to strengthen communication with border communities in Arunachal Pradesh.
“Radio Dirang, 88.4 FM – Apni Mitti, Apni Kahani” was inaugurated by Eastern Army Commander Lieutenant General RC Tiwari during his visit to the region.
The initiative, established by 4 (Gajraj) Corps under Operation Sadbhavna, aims to improve connectivity, support socio-economic development and promote cultural harmony in areas close to the India-China border.
Designed to serve the people of Dirang, the station will broadcast community programmes, cultural content and essential public information. It also acts as a communication bridge for local administration, facilitating timely outreach in remote areas.
The service is accessible via FM radio and mobile apps on both Android and iOS, allowing listeners to stream content and access podcasts anytime.
In another significant achievement, an Army mountaineering team from the Eastern Command has successfully scaled Mount Kangto, the highest peak in Arunachal Pradesh, at 7,042 metres. The 18-member team completed the first recorded ascent of the peak, which has long been regarded as an unconquered sentinel of the Kameng Himalayas.
The expedition was flagged off in November from a forward base of 4 Corps and navigated a demanding southern route.
