New Delhi: State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) announced the nationwide rollout of its in-house developed customer registration mobile application, Sanchar Mitra, aimed at restoring and streamlining new customer onboarding services.
BSNL engineers have developed the application from across the country and replaced the earlier Sanchar Aadhaar app, which was used for Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification of new subscribers.
The previous application had been developed by a private vendor and was used by BSNL retailers and franchise partners to digitally verify customer identities while issuing new connections.
The shift to an in-house platform became necessary after BSNL’s contract with the authorised provider of the Sanchar Aadhaar app expired at the end of November 2025. The contract lapse had resulted in temporary disruptions in customer registration services, including the issuance of new SIM cards and replacement SIMs in several parts of the country.
In a statement, BSNL said the Sanchar Mitra app was developed internally under emergency circumstances to ensure continuity of services. The application has now been deployed nationwide, including in Karnataka.
Calling it a “Swadeshi” solution, BSNL said the new app is playing a crucial role in delivering faster and more efficient services to customers.
