New Delhi: Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology and Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw on 6 January launched a nationwide artificial intelligence skilling initiative aimed at training 10 lakh youth and small entrepreneurs over the next year.
The programme was unveiled during his virtual address at an Artificial Intelligence Conference held in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
Highlighting AI’s growing influence, Vaishnaw said the technology is already transforming sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, manufacturing, governance and infrastructure and is reshaping the way people live and work. He underlined the government’s focus on building AI capabilities that are responsible, inclusive and aligned with social good.
The minister also announced that the Global AI Impact Summit will be hosted in New Delhi next month, marking the first time the global event will be held in India.
As part of the build-up, regional AI summits are being organised across states, with recent editions held in Meghalaya and Odisha, followed by the Jaipur conference.
Vaishnaw noted that India is seeing AI investments of around $70 billion under the IndiaAI Mission, which supports new applications and technology development. Minister of State for Electronics and IT Jitin Prasada said the Centre has allocated over Rs 10,000 crore for the mission to drive AI-led capacity building.
