New Delhi: In a key administrative decision to strengthen leadership within the Ministry of Mines, the Government of India has approved the upgradation of posts held by two officers, IAS Bakki Karthikeyan and IAS Geetika Sharma, to the director level.
The decision has been cleared by the Department of Personnel and Training. The move is aimed at enhancing policy formulation, execution capacity, and continuity in the Ministry of Mines, which plays an important role in resource management, infrastructure development, and the country’s energy transition.
According to an official memorandum issued by the DoPT, the post of Private Secretary to the Union Minister for Coal and Mines, G. Kishan Reddy, currently held by Karthikeyan, has been upgraded from the Deputy Secretary level to the Director level. The upgradation has been approved as a personal measure and will take effect from the date Karthikeyan assumes charge of the re-designated post.
The tenure of the upgraded Director-level position will remain valid up to August 9, 2029, or on a co-terminus basis with the Minister, or until Karthikeyan ceases to function as Private Secretary to the Union Minister, whichever occurs earlier.
Similar approval has been extended for the upgradation of the post held by Geetika Sharma, reinforcing leadership capacity within the Ministry.
