New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to meet a group of eminent economists and sectoral experts on 30 December as part of the government’s pre-Budget consultations.
According to reports, the interaction is aimed at gathering inputs and assessments ahead of the Union Budget for 2026-27, which Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present on 1 February 2026.
The upcoming Budget will be framed amid heightened global uncertainties, including geopolitical tensions and the impact of a steep 50 per cent tariff imposed by the US on shipments from India.
These factors are expected to weigh on trade, manufacturing and overall economic sentiment, making policy choices in the Budget particularly critical.
In addition, senior officials from NITI Aayog will participate in the meeting. NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery, Chief Executive Officer B.V.R. Subrahmanyam and other members of the policy think tank are scheduled to attend.
