New Delhi: RITES Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to support the development and modernisation of railway and transport infrastructure in the country.
The agreement was signed with Botswana’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, aiming to strengthen the nation’s transport sector through the use of advanced technology and global best practices.
Scope of Collaboration
Under the MoU, Botswana will benefit from RITES’ technical expertise in railway development and modernisation. The scope includes the supply of rolling stock, commissioning of systems, and support for repair, operation, and maintenance of railway assets. RITES will also assist in upgrading and modernising railway workshops to improve operational efficiency and reliability.
Beyond Railways
The partnership extends beyond rail transport. RITES will support infrastructure development across highways, bridges, airports, and buildings. This broad engagement is expected to help Botswana build a more integrated and resilient transport network that meets future mobility needs.
Capacity Building and Technology Support
A key component of the agreement is capacity building. RITES will provide technical training programs, facilitate knowledge exchange, and offer quality assurance services, including third-party inspections, pre-shipment checks, and final acceptance testing. The company will also deploy advanced information technology solutions, including integrated train operations and passenger management systems.
MoU Signing Ceremony
The MoU exchange ceremony was attended by senior officials from both sides, including Botswana’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Noah Salakae, and the High Commissioner of India to Botswana, Bharath Kumar Kuthati. The collaboration reflects growing cooperation between India and Botswana in infrastructure development.
