Amaravati: Senior IAS G. Sai Prasad has officially assumed charge as the new Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh.
He succeeds IAS K. Vijayanand, whose three-month extension in the role ends this week.
Sai Prasad currently serves as Special Chief Secretary in the Water Resources and Revenue Departments. He also holds the post of ex officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister. The state government had named him Chief Secretary in November last year while granting Vijayanand an extension.
With more than three decades in public service, Sai Prasad has handled key assignments across sectors. In the power and energy sector, he served as Joint Managing Director of AP Transco and as Chairman and Managing Director of AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited and AP Central Power Distribution Company Limited. He was also Vice Chairman of the AP Housing Board.
Between 2011 and 2014, he was on deputation to the Centre as Joint Secretary in the Union Ministry of Power. From 2014 to 2019, he worked closely with the Chief Minister as Secretary and later Principal Secretary.
During the previous YSRCP government, he served as CMD of AP Solar Power Corporation Pvt Ltd and as ex officio Principal Secretary, Energy. He also worked as the Chief Commissioner of Land Administration for over two years. After the change in government, he was appointed Special Chief Secretary in the Water Resources Department and later given charge of Revenue.
Sai Prasad now steps into the state’s top bureaucratic role with wide experience and a strong focus on people-centric governance.
