New Delhi: IAS Atish Chandra has officially assumed charge as the new Secretary of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Chandra is a 1994-batch Bihar cadre officer. He succeeds IAS Devesh Chaturvedi, who retired on 28th February.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved Chandra’s appointment last year in November. He was then appointed as the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Agriculture Department. Before that, he served as the Special Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Chandra was empanelled last year for appointment to Secretary-level posts, clearing the way for his elevation to the top post in the ministry.
Chandra holds a B.A. and M.A. in Political Science from Delhi University. With proficiency in English and Hindi, he brings a wealth of experience to his current role as the Secretary.
