Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released the 22nd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana from Guwahati, providing financial support to millions of farmers across the country.
The scheme, run by the Government of India, provides income support to eligible landholding farmer families. Under the programme, beneficiaries receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each, distributed every four months.
So far, 21 instalments have been released under the scheme, with the 22nd instalment now due. Farmers who have completed their e-KYC formalities and submitted the required documents on time will receive the payment. The funds are directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, ensuring transparency and eliminating the need for middlemen.
Launched in 2019, PM-KISAN is a central sector scheme designed to provide financial assistance to small and marginal farmers to help them meet agricultural expenses. The support can be used to cover costs related to seeds, fertilisers, equipment, and other farming inputs.
Since its inception in 2018, the programme has become one of the world’s largest income-support initiatives for farmers. According to official data, more than Rs 4.27 lakh crore has been transferred to over 9.35 crore farmers under the scheme.
To ensure that the benefits reach only genuine landholders, the government has made e-KYC verification and Aadhaar seeding mandatory for all registered beneficiaries under the scheme.
