Lucknow: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the second portion of the Green Corridor project in Lucknow on March 13.
He will be joined by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The new carriageway is expected to improve connectivity across the city and reduce travel time for commuters.
5.1 km stretch to improve east–west connectivity
The newly developed four-lane stretch of the Green Corridor spans about 5.1 kilometres and runs from Bhikhampur to Daliganj. Once opened for traffic, the road will make commuting between Samta Mulak crossing in Gomtinagar and Jehta in the city smoother.
Officials estimate that the corridor will cut travel time between the western and eastern parts of the city by around 15 to 20 minutes. The route is expected to benefit daily commuters by providing a faster alternative to several congested city roads.
Temporary traffic bottlenecks expected
Despite the expected benefits, authorities have cautioned that commuters may initially face some congestion. Traffic using the new carriageway will merge with existing traffic at Nishatganj and Bikhampur, which could create temporary bottlenecks until traffic management measures are implemented.
Part of larger 28.3 km corridor project
According to the Lucknow Development Authority vice-chairman Prathmesh Kumar, the new stretch will help reduce traffic congestion in Daliganj, Hazratganj, and Nishatganj.
He added that work on the next phase has already begun, including the construction of an embankment along the Gomti River between Shaheed Path and Pipara Ghat.
Once fully completed, the Green Corridor project will extend about 28.3 km and connect IIM Road to Kisan Path along the Gomti River, improving access to Faizabad Road via Chinhat and strengthening the city’s transport network.
