New Delhi, June 2 (APAC Media): The Government has appointed IAS officer Sanjay Lohiya as Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), which oversees policies and regulations related to the banking, insurance, and pension sectors.
Lohiya is a 1994 batch IAS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre. He was earlier serving as Special Secretary in the Department of Financial Services.
In his new role, Lohiya succeeds M. Nagaraju, who retired from service on May 31 after completing his tenure as Secretary, Department of Financial Services.
Prior to joining DFS, Sanjay Lohiya served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Mines, where he played a key role in implementing reforms aimed at modernising the mining sector.
Apart from his assignments at the Centre, Lohiya has also held several important positions in state administration. He previously served as Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister of Assam, where he was involved in governance, policy coordination, and the implementation of major government programmes.
His appointment comes at a time when India’s financial sector is undergoing rapid digital transformation, with a growing emphasis on financial inclusion and efforts to strengthen institutional resilience across the banking and insurance sectors.
