New Delhi, June 7 (APAC Media): Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has appointed Kumar Shanker as its new Managing Director, succeeding Kamal Kishore Chatiwal.
Shanker has been nominated for the position by GAIL (India) Limited and assumes leadership at a pivotal time as IGL expands its city gas distribution (CGD) network and strengthens its presence in India’s clean energy sector.
Veteran of the Natural Gas Industry
With more than three decades of experience in the natural gas industry, Shanker brings extensive expertise in commissioning, operations, project management, regulatory affairs, corporate strategy, and CGD operations. Before joining IGL, he served as the Managing Director of Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL), where he played a key role in advancing gas distribution initiatives.
Strong Policy and Regulatory Experience
Throughout his career, Shanker has held several leadership positions across GAIL’s operations in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and New Delhi. He has worked closely with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, NITI Aayog, and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) on key policy and regulatory matters.
One of his notable contributions was supporting the implementation of the Unified Tariff framework for India’s National Gas Grid System, a significant reform aimed at improving access to natural gas across the country.
Driving Digital and Infrastructure Reforms
Shanker also played an instrumental role in developing and launching an online Pipeline Open Access Portal, which enhanced transparency and efficiency in booking common carrier capacity across GAIL’s gas pipeline network.
His appointment is expected to support IGL’s growth strategy and further strengthen its role in India’s evolving energy landscape.
