Dehradun, July 1 (APAC Media): Uttarakhand gets approval of ₹7,016 crore worth of road infrastructure projects from Central Government, giving a major boost to the state’s connectivity.
The approval follows Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s meeting with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi, where he sought support for key road projects.
The projects will strengthen national highways, improve connectivity in remote areas, and boost tourism, pilgrimage, and disaster management across Uttarakhand.
The ₹7,016 crore package includes funding across several key road infrastructure projects:
• ₹2,966 crore under the National Highways Original (NHO) programme for five major highway projects
• ₹750 crore under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) for works in the current financial year
• ₹3,000 crore to strengthen connectivity between national highways, branch roads, and internal road networks
• ₹300 crore for the Sikuda Band–NH-309 tunnel and motor road project in Almora
Together, these projects are expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, and give a major boost to Uttarakhand’s transport infrastructure.
Under the ₹2,966 crore allocation, the Centre has cleared five major highway projects:

• Lohaghat–Pithoragarh Bypass Alignment
• Four-laning of the Mjhola–Khatima Road

These projects are expected to improve regional connectivity, ease traffic congestion, and provide smoother travel for residents and tourists alike.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted Uttarakhand’s challenging terrain, strategic importance, and rising tourism and pilgrimage traffic.
He urged the Centre to prioritise a modern road network that would improve connectivity, strengthen disaster preparedness, and enhance access to border areas.
Several other key proposals were also discussed during the meeting, including:
• Construction of the Haridwar Bypass to ease traffic during the Ardh Kumbh
• Fast-tracking the Kotdwar Bypass project
• Approval of an MoU with the Uttarakhand Landslide Management Centre (ULMMC) for preparing DPRs in landslide-prone areas
• Approval of DPRs for BRO-linked road projects, including stretches of the Rishikesh–Gangotri highway
• Policy support for revised performance security norms in low-cost road construction tenders
These proposals are aimed at improving road safety, reducing landslide risks, and building a more resilient highway network across the state.
