New Delhi, July 1 (APAC Media): In a move aimed at offering more affordable and flexible travel options, IndiGo today announced the launch of its new entry-level fare category, ‘IndiGo Lite.’
The category is designed for passengers travelling with only cabin baggage and seeking to pay only for the services they use.
The new fare category will be available for bookings made through IndiGo’s direct channels, including its website, mobile app, and contact centre, starting July 1, for travel beginning July 15. IndiGo Lite will be offered across all domestic and international non-stop routes. The fare will be applicable for one-way, round-trip, and multi-city bookings for both adult and child passengers.
Key features of IndiGo Lite:
- Allows up to 7 kg cabin baggage
- Includes automatic seat allocation at no extra cost
- No check-in baggage included by default
- Optional add-ons available at extra cost
Passengers can purchase additional services such as:
- Check-in baggage
- Preferred seats
- Onboard meals
- Priority airport services like Fast Forward
These services can be added through IndiGo’s digital platforms or at the airport up to one hour before departure. Despite being a lower-cost fare option, IndiGo confirmed that Lite passengers will continue to earn and redeem BluChip loyalty points, ensuring access to the airline’s rewards programme.
Commenting on the launch, IndiGo Chief Strategy Officer Aloke Singh said the new fare has been introduced for travellers who prefer to travel light while retaining greater control over travel expenses. The launch reflects a growing global trend of airlines adopting unbundled fare models, allowing passengers to customize travel services based on their needs and budgets.
