Bhopal, July 23 (APAC Media): Senior IAS officer Ashok Barnwal has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, following the appointment of outgoing Chief Secretary Anurag Jain as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NITI Aayog by the Central Government.
Barnwal is an IAS officer of the 1991 batch.
The Madhya Pradesh Government issued the appointment order on Wednesday evening, shortly after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved Anurag Jain’s elevation to NITI Aayog. Barnwal will serve as the state’s top bureaucrat until his superannuation on January 31, 2027.
Ashok Barnwal brings more than 35 years of administrative experience across key sectors, including governance, healthcare, agriculture, forests, food security, environmental management and public policy.

Ashok Barnwal’s academic qualifications include:
- B.Tech/B.E. in Mining Engineering
- Post Graduate Diploma in Public Policy & Management
His technical background, coupled with formal training in public policy, has contributed significantly to his approach towards governance, institutional reforms and public administration.
