New Delhi, July 10 (APAC Media): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said Australia continues to be one of the most preferred destinations for Indian students as India and Australia announced a series of initiatives to strengthen cooperation in education, skills development, research, and vocational training.
Addressing a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Modi said the opening of Australian university campuses in India has added a new dimension to bilateral educational cooperation.
He added that both countries would continue to expand exchanges of students, professionals, and tourists to further strengthen people-to-people ties.
Prime Minister Albanese described the India-Australia relationship as stronger than ever, highlighting growing collaboration across defence, trade, investment, energy, education, and technology.
He said universities, businesses, and people-to-people connections would continue to play a key role in expanding bilateral economic cooperation.
Key Education and Skill Related Outcomes:
- India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Technical and Further Education (TAFE), Western Australia, signed an MoU to establish a Centre of Excellence in Mining and Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) at the National Skill Training Institute (NSTI), Bhubaneswar. The centre will focus on mining operations, mine safety, mineral processing, and mine machinery, while facilitating student and trainee exchanges.
- Flinders University received a Letter of Intent from the Australian Government to establish its campus in Bengaluru, while Victoria University received a Letter of Approval to set up a campus in Gurugram, further expanding the presence of Australian universities in India.
- India and Australia also signed a Letter of Intent between the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET) and the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) to strengthen quality assurance in technical and vocational education, align occupational standards, promote capacity building, and encourage staff exchanges and joint research.
- The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) signed an MoU with the University of Melbourne to promote collaborative research in areas including drug target identification, trainee programmes, and faculty exchanges.
- The Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata, signed an MoU with Griffith Film School, South Brisbane, to collaborate on academic programmes, filmmaking projects, workshops, summer schools, and short-term training initiatives.
The initiatives reflect the growing India-Australia partnership in education, research, and skills development, with both countries aiming to create greater opportunities for students, researchers, and professionals.
