New Delhi, August 13(APAC Media): Astrotalk has become India’s latest unicorn after completing an ESOP buyback that valued the company at $1 billion.
Astrotalk Becomes Unicorn
The Noida-based startup completed the employee stock buyback for more than 100 employees, allowing them to sell part of their vested shares. The company funded the liquidity programme through its operating profits instead of raising fresh money from investors.
Astrotalk has not disclosed the total value of the ESOP buyback.
Growth And Profitability
The latest valuation comes as Astrotalk continues to grow its business beyond online astrology services. Founded in 2017, the company has expanded into spiritual and commerce-related offerings.
Astrotalk reported Rs 1,176 crore in revenue in FY25, while its profit before tax stood at Rs 285 crore. The company has also said its current revenue run rate has crossed Rs 2,500 crore.
ESOP Buyback Gives Employees Liquidity
The buyback allows employees to realise part of the value of their stock holdings without waiting for a public listing or an acquisition. The move also highlights Astrotalk’s focus on using profits to fund employee liquidity while continuing its expansion.
The company has previously raised funding from investors including Left Lane Capital and Elev8 Venture Partners. Left Lane Capital invested $20 million in February 2024 and a further $14 million four months later.
With the latest transaction, Astrotalk joins the growing list of Indian startups that have reached the $1 billion valuation mark.
