New Delhi, August 13(APAC Media): Accel has launched a new $550 million fund for early-stage startups in India.
India Startup Funding
The new fund is Accel’s ninth India-focused fund and comes less than 18 months after the venture capital firm raised a $650 million fund. The latest fund is part of Accel’s wider $3.5 billion global fundraising effort, which also includes a $1.35 billion growth-stage fund.
Accel plans to invest the new capital in areas including artificial intelligence, deep technology and advanced manufacturing. The focus comes as investors increasingly look at technology companies that can build businesses around specialised technology rather than only rapid user growth.
Accel Fund And Indian Startups
With the latest fund, Accel has raised about $1.2 billion for India-focused investments over the past 18 months, according to the Mint report. The firm has previously invested in several Indian technology companies, including Flipkart, Freshworks and Swiggy.
Startup Funding Remains Under Pressure
The fundraise comes at a time when India’s startup funding market has not returned to the levels seen during the 2021 boom. Funding conditions have remained more selective, particularly for companies that are yet to demonstrate strong business fundamentals.
Accel’s latest fund therefore adds fresh capital to the early-stage segment even as the broader Indian startup funding market remains cautious. The fund’s focus on AI, deep tech and advanced manufacturing also reflects the growing share of technology-led businesses seeking institutional capital in India.
