Kolkata: Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee has suggested to West Bengal government to go for more testing and building adequate Infrastructure to tackle corona crisis. He has suggested this as the chairman of global advisory board formed by the state government to handle the situation.
Board decided to release a public statement as they feel that the situation is not that good. Banerjee is the chairman of the global advisory board in which various eminent experts are also included.
The board statement, issued on Wednesday stated,’ Till now 13 meetings have been held. In some, even state chief secretary and health secretaries were also present. We are happy that some of the suggestions made by the board were accepted by the state. But like the other parts of India, in west bengal too corona patient numbers are going up. As lockdown have been relaxed, the numbers have been growing up. In long term, lockdown cannot be the permanent solution. So to tackle the crisis, people have to continue wearing mask, maintain social distancing and avoid public places as much as they can.’
The state can also create awareness campaigns on COVID crisis through video messages of eminent personalities, suggested board.
