AMARAVATI: In a move to provide relief to several drought-hit villages in Prakasam district, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to extend the proposed Varikapudisela lift irrigation scheme to Pullalacheruvu mandal of Yerragondapalem constituency.
The original scheme was designed to provide irrigation and drinking water to Durgi, Veldurthi, Macherla, Gurazala and Bollapalli mandals in Palnadu district. However, the scheme has been revised following the insistence of municipal administration minister Dr Adimulapu Suresh to provide irrigation and drinking water to Pullalacheruvu mandal. The state government has already given green signal to take up the phase-II works with a cost of Rs.1,500 crore.
“About 2,476 acres in Marrivemula, 6,641 acres in Mutukula and 1338 acres in Sathakodu villages-total 10,456 acres in Pullalacheruvu mandal will get irrigation water under phase-II of Varikapudisela project. I have directed the officials to revise the plans further to fill drinking water tanks in all the three villages to provide drinking water to about 14 villages,” said municipal administration minister Dr Suresh. He reviewed the project status with the officials at the campo office in Vijayawada on Sunday. He directed the officials to get the estimations for the drinking water component ready to get the clearance from CM Jagan Mohan Reddy.
