PUDUCHERRY: Tourism minister K Lakshminarayanan, who holds the portfolio of information technology, said the government will implement e-office services within six months. Making an announcement in this regard while winding up debate for demands on grants related to his portfolios, he said the information technology department will commence implementation of blockchain technology in seven departments and extend 26 services in April this year.
Blockchain is a method of recording information that makes it impossible or difficult for the system to be changed, hacked, or manipulated. He said the government will identify a transaction advisor for setting up an IT park and a special economic zone.
The minister said the government has appointed consultants to prepare a detailed project report to sink deep borewells at 40 locations in rural areas to meet the drinking water needs of the people in the town under the French Development Agency (Agence Francaise de Developpement, AFD) scheme. The government will initiate necessary action to implement the detailed project report in the next financial year to meet the drinking water needs of people in urban and rural areas. The government has earmarked 380 crore for the project, he said.
Lakshminarayanan said the government has submitted a draft expression of interest to the Union government to install two desalination plants with a total capacity of 0.5 million litres per day at Uppalam and Pillaichavady. The government has decided to direct installation of rainwater harvesting techniques in all government and private buildings including residential buildings to recharge ground water.
