New Delhi: Big boost to funding & research in educational institutions. The National Research Foundation (NRF) Bill, 2023 is likely to be introduced in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament. If passed, which is already cleared by the Union Cabinet, this will pave the way for seed, grow and promotion of Research and Development (R&D) and foster a culture of research and innovation throughout India’s universities, colleges, research institutions, and R&D laboratories.
After passing of the bill, NRF will be established which will work as an apex body to provide high-level strategic direction of scientific research in the country as per recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP), at a total estimated cost of Rs. 50,000 crore during five years (2023-28).The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will be the administrative Department of NRF which will be governed by a Governing Board consisting of eminent researchers and professionals across disciplines.
On the other hand, Parliament’s monsoon session has been announced by the Government on Saturday. The session will start on July 20 and continue till August 11, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said today. Chances are there that the session can shift to the new building of the parliament mid-way, which will be the first time that a session will take place in the new building.
