New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has expanded its WhatsApp-based ticketing system on Thursday, covering all lines in Delhi National Capital Region (NCR). DMRC launched this system in May with the Airport Express Line.
How to use the WhatsApp-based ticketing system?
Metro users can now purchase a metro ticket by sending a message with the text ‘Hi’ on the number +91 9650855800 via WhatsApp or by scanning the provided QR code using their smartphones. This WhatsApp chatbox is currently available in English and Hindi.
Key Features of the WhatsApp Ticketing Service:
1. Users can generate up to a maximum of 6 QR tickets in a single transaction.
2. Ticket bookings are available between 6 am to 9 pm for all lines and from 4 am to 11 pm for the Airport Line (Orange Line).
3. Ticket cancellations are not allowed via WhatsApp Ticketing.
4. Transactions made via credit/debit card will carry a marginal convenience fee, while none will be charged for UPI-based transactions.
Delhi Metro’s statement read, “DMRC remains committed to continually enhancing the metro experience for its passengers, and this collaboration with Meta is a testament to that commitment.”
“WhatsApp is the preferred messaging platform for the majority of Indians, and buying a metro ticket will now be as easy as messaging a friend or family member. We are confident that this integration will encourage more commuters to choose the Delhi metro as their preferred mode of travel,” said Dr Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Meta’s Director of Business Messaging, Ravi Garg said, “Every day, millions of commuters rely on the Delhi metro to reach their desired destinations, and we are thrilled to provide this ticketing experience within their WhatsApp chats.”
This initiative by DMRC will significantly simplify the commuting experience of WhatsApp users who rely on the corporation for a smooth transit experience.
