New Delhi: Google recently launched MedLM, a family of foundation models tailored for healthcare industry applications. The MedLM suite is currently available to Google Cloud customers in the United States via a allowlisted general availability on the Vertex AI platform, and a preview release in select global markets.
Comprising two models, MedLM offers flexibility to healthcare organisations by catering to diverse needs. The first model, designed for complex tasks, addresses applications such as summarising conversations, while the second, a medium-sized model, is adept at scaling across tasks and is fine-tuned for versatility.
Several companies are integrating MedLM into their solutions. Noteworthy examples include:
HCA Healthcare and Augmedix
HCA Healthcare is implementing MedLM through Augmedix. It uses natural language processing to convert clinician-patient conversations into accurate medical notes. This will enhance automation, improve summarisation, conserve time, reduce burnout, and enhance patient care.
BenchSci and ASCEND
BenchSci is integrating MedLM into its ASCEND platform, an AI-powered evidence engine, to accelerate pre-clinical research and development. It leverages MedLM to enhance the accuracy, precision, and reliability of its knowledge graph, leading to improved identification, classification, and discovery of novel biomarkers in drug research.
Collaborating with Accenture for Healthcare Process Improvement
Accenture’s Solutions.AI for Processing for Health, utilising MedLM and Google Cloud’s Claims Acceleration Suite, automates manual processes such as claims processing and clinical document reading. The collaboration aims to provide faster, more informed decisions, ultimately leading to better patient outcomes.
Deloitte and Google Cloud’s Collaboration for Provider Search
Deloitte and Google Cloud are jointly working to enhance administrative tasks in healthcare organisations. MedLM’s capabilities are being piloted to improve provider search through an interactive chatbot, making it easier for health plan members to identify best-fit providers
