New Delhi: To tackle mobile phone-related fraud and online crimes, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has instructed telecom companies to stop USSD-based call forwarding services from April 15, according to an official notice issued on March 28.
The order highlighted the misuse of USSD-based call forwarding, such as through services like *401#, for unauthorised purposes.
The directive states, “All existing subscribers who have activated USSD-based call forwarding service may be asked to reactivate call forwarding services through alternative methods to ensure that such services are not activated without their notice.”
Subscribers commonly use USSD services by dialling specific codes on their mobile screens for checking IMEI numbers and mobile balances.
