New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected calls to cancel the NEET UG 2024 exam but has mandated a retest for students from Bihar following complaints of technical issues during the exam. The decision comes after petitioners from Patna and Hazaribagh raised concerns about the integrity of the test conducted on July 7, 2024.
The petitioners argued that technical glitches and other irregularities adversely affected their performance, leading to a compromised examination environment. They sought either the cancellation of the exam or a retest to ensure fairness. In its ruling, the Supreme Court dismissed the option of canceling the entire examination. Instead, the Court ordered the National Testing Agency (NTA) to organize a retest specifically for the affected students. The NTA has been directed to conduct this retest within two months, ensuring that all necessary measures are in place to address previous technical issues and maintain examination integrity.
The Court’s decision focuses on preserving the fairness of the admission process by allowing affected candidates another opportunity to take the exam under better conditions. The NTA will issue new admit cards and provide detailed instructions for the retest, aiming for a smooth and transparent process.
