New Delhi: The Center has announced Govind Mohan as the next Union Home Secretary. With immediate effect, Mohan has been designated as Officer on Special Duty in the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Mohan, a 1989-batch IAS officer from the Sikkim cadre, has held various positions at the federal and state levels, giving him a wealth of experience in administration and governance. Mohan is an electrical engineer from IIT(BHU) Varanasi and has served as the Union Culture Secretary since October 2021. Before that he held positions in the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as an Additional Secretary from September 2018 to September 2021 and as a Joint Secretary from May to September 2018.
He will succeed Ajay Kumar Bhalla, the current Home Secretary when his term expires on August 22. Mohan’s appointment comes at a crucial moment as the Ministry of Home Affairs is still in charge of major matters like internal security difficulties, law and order and national security.
