New Delhi: The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. This will be the first assembly polls in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370. The UT has gone without an elected government for the past seven years as no elections have been held in the last decade.
The poll panel said that the elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held in three phases starting September 18, whereas Haryana will vote on October 1 in a single phase. The results of both assembly elections will be announced on October 4, 2024.
The terms of existing legislative assemblies will end on November 3 in Haryana, on November 26 in Maharashtra, and on January 5, 2025 in Jharkhand. The elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand will also be held later this year.
