New Delhi: Gail (India) Ltd, the state-owned gas utility, will start importing liquefied natural gas (LNG) under two newly signed contracts in 2026, according to Chairman Sandeep Kumar Gupta. The company secured agreements earlier this year to import 1 million tonnes of LNG annually from Dutch energy trader Vitol and 0.5 million tonnes per annum from UAE’s ADNOC Gas, each for 10 years.
Gail plans to transport the LNG using cryogenic ships, converting it back to gas before supplying it to power plants, fertilizer units, and city gas operators. The company operates a 5 million tonnes per year LNG import facility at Dabhol, Maharashtra, and has leased additional space at terminals in Gujarat and Odisha.
Additionally, Gail has renewed its 4.5 million tonnes per annum LNG supply agreement with Qatar Energy LNG, with deliveries set to begin in 2028. The firm is also expanding its petrochemical portfolio with several new projects.
