Chandigarh: The Union government has launched the 24×7 water supply project at Manimajra, Chandigarh. The project, under the Smart City Mission, aims to provide continuous access to clean drinking water for over one lakh residents in the area.
The initiative is part of the broader Smart Cities Mission, which seeks to enhance urban infrastructure and improve living standards. This development is also aligned with the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide clean drinking water to households across India.
The water supply system is expected to eliminate the need for water tankers and ensure that clean water is available directly from taps, addressing the challenges posed by old pipelines and increasing population. It also involves augmenting the water resources through leakage reduction, smart metering, reducing dependence on groundwater, and monitoring of energy consumption.
