New Delhi: The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is implementing stringent measures to reduce spam and fraudulent messaging, effective September 1, 2024. Access service providers must now enforce stricter regulations, including prohibiting the transmission of messages with non-whitelisted URLs, APKs, OTT links, or callback numbers. From November 1, 2024, all messages must be traceable from sender to recipient, with any mismatches resulting in rejection.
TRAI also requires that headers and content templates on the Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) platform comply with specific guidelines. In cases of misuse, service providers must suspend traffic from the sender’s headers and content templates until legal action is taken.
Additionally, delivery telemarketers are obligated to identify and report entities responsible for misuse within two business days or face penalties. These new regulations aim to strengthen the fight against spam and ensure a safer messaging environment for users.
