Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has introduced significant changes to its social media policy, enforcing severe penalties for posting anti-national content. Under the new Uttar Pradesh Digital Media Policy, 2024, approved by the state cabinet, individuals found guilty of such offenses could face imprisonment ranging from three years to life.
The policy also targets the dissemination of obscene or defamatory material, with violators subject to criminal defamation charges. Additionally, the policy includes financial guidelines for social media influencers, setting maximum monthly payment limits for platforms like X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, ranging from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 8 lakh, depending on the content type.
A digital agency named ‘V-Form’ has been appointed to manage advertisements and oversee social media content under this policy. These measures aim to regulate digital content and maintain strict oversight of online activities in the state.
