Bangalore: The Volvo Group has partnered with Rane (Madras) Ltd. to develop fossil-free tie rods and linkages which are crucial parts that steer the wheels of Volvo trucks. Across the whole supply chain, these products are made entirely of renewable energy, removing the need for hazardous materials and fossil fuels.
The Volvo Group Trucks will use fossil-free parts from Indian suppliers, which could cut carbon dioxide emissions by 13,000 tons a year. Madras Engineering Industries Private Limited (MEI) and Rane (Madras) Ltd., two important supply partners from Chennai, India, have worked with Volvo Group on this project. To ensure a genuinely sustainable production process, the creative approach also makes use of electric vehicles for material movement and steel free of fossil fuels. Madras Engineering Industries Private Limited (MEI) and the Volvo Group have also worked together to produce ferrous castings, another essential automotive component that is free of fossil fuels.
Volvo Group’s supply chain, which includes international suppliers based in India, is dedicated to achieving climate neutrality by the year 2040. The Volvo Group created and began sourcing fossil-free castings from India in 2022.
