New Delhi: The Union Minister of Power and Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal has announced the launch of the web platform DRIPS (Disaster Resilient Infrastructure for the Power Sector). The launch aims to allow for the fast identification and deployment of critical resources during a disaster.
DRIPS will act as a single point of contact for all designated nodal officers from all power sector departments and other agencies in the affected districts and states to manage the inventory of specific Power System equipment and critical supplies, which is an important step in an emergency response. CEA was responsible for developing this inventory by IDRN and hosting it on the National Power Portal. The portal will function as a single portal for all three areas of the power sector, namely generation, transmission, and distribution.
A series of natural disasters in India in recent years, including Cyclone Fani in Odisha, catastrophic floods in Jammu and Kashmir, and massive flooding in Kerala, have exposed the fragility of infrastructure, notably in the power sector. The govt. said that the DRIPS system will enable the rapid identification and deployment of relevant resources, ensuring that power sector disruptions are resolved quickly.
