Kolkata: In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, the West Bengal government has reassigned several senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers to new positions. This move is seen as a strategic effort by the state government to strengthen its administrative machinery and improve governance across various departments.
Among the notable changes, IAS officer Sanjay Bansal has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Finance Department. Bansal, known for his extensive experience in financial management and governance, is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the department, especially as West Bengal navigates its fiscal challenges.
Another key appointment is that of IAS officer Rajesh Pandey, who has been named the Secretary of the Food and Supplies Department. Pandey’s new role comes at a crucial time when the state is focusing on ensuring food security and improving the distribution of essential commodities across West Bengal.
In addition, IAS officer Smita Pandey has been transferred to the post of Secretary, Higher Education Department. With her background in education and previous experience in the sector, she is anticipated to drive reforms aimed at enhancing the quality of higher education in the state.
The reshuffle also includes the appointment of IAS officer Barun Kumar Ray as the Principal Secretary of the Public Health Engineering Department. Ray’s appointment is expected to bolster the department’s efforts in providing safe drinking water and improving sanitation facilities across the state.
Other significant transfers include IAS officer Ajay Singh, who has been made the new Commissioner of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, and IAS officer Sunil Gupta, who has been appointed as the Managing Director of the West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company.
