New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has accepted the recommendations of the ‘One Nation One Election’ Committee on the issue of Simultaneous Elections. The committee is chaired by the former President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
The recommendations given by the committee are:

Implementation of elections in two phases

Simultaneous Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections in the first phase

Local body (Panchayat and Municipalities) elections within 100 days of general elections in the second phase

Common electoral roll for all the elections

Formation of an implementation group
The committee was formed on September 2, 2023. In addition to Ram Nath Kovind, other members of the committee included Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury; Ghulam Nabi Azad; former 15th Finance Commission Chairman, NK Singh; former Lok Sabha Secretary General, Subhash C Kashyap; Senior Advocate Harish Salve; and former Chief Vigilance Commissioner, Sanjay Kothari.
