New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in a unanimous decision, appointed Atishi as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. She is currently serving as a Cabinet Minister overseeing 14 key portfolios including Education, Public Works Department, Tourism, Culture, and Power.
Atishi, who has been involved with AAP since 2013, is the third woman CM of the capital after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. She is also the second youngest to become the CM after Chaudhary Brahm Prakash. Till April 2018, she served as an advisor to the Delhi education minister and played a pivotal role in improving the state of education in the government schools. In the 2020 Delhi Assembly election, Atishi was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), before eventually becoming a minister in the Delhi Cabinet in 2023.
An alumnus of St Stephen’s College, Delhi University, Atishi studied History in her under graduation. She pursued her Master’s on a Chevening scholarship at Oxford University. Later she also earned her second Master’s from Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar in Educational Research.
