Patna: The government has appointed the former coal secretary, Amrit Lal Meena, as the new Chief Secretary of Bihar. In an official order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, the authority has approved the repatriation of Amrit Lal Meena to his parent cadre. The move has come since the current chief secretary of Bihar, Brijesh Mehrotra has retired, resulting in a vacancy in the position.
Meena is an Indian Administrative Officer of the 1989 batch belonging to the Bihar cadre. He has previously held the charge of Special Secretary (Logistics) in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. He has also served as the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Food Processing Industries and in the Ministry of Rural Development. In addition, he worked as Principal Secretary/Additional Chief Secretary in the Road Construction department of the government of Bihar. Moreover, he also held the position of the District Magistrate in five districts of the state for over 9 years.
Meena has completed his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and Post Graduation Diploma in Public Policy and Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Bengaluru. As the Secretary of the government of Bihar, he looked after various departments, including Rural Development, Urban Development, and Building Corporation. During his tenure as the Coal Secretary, Meena consistently worked towards enhancing coal production in India and reducing the country’s dependence on coal imports. With his extensive experience in various administrative roles, he is expected to bring significant value as the Chief Secretary by addressing key development challenges of the state in infrastructure, transportation, mining, etc.
